I usually object when so-called experts presume to vote on things like “best slogan,” “best commercial,” etc. Advertising should be judged by market performance, not reviewed as an art form. But today when a bunch of prominent ad execs announced their ten all-time favorite jingles, I simply enjoyed the stroll down Memory Lane. Here are their choices, in order, in case you’d like to stroll with me:
- I’d like to buy the world a Coke
- Oh, I wish I were an Oscar Mayer Wiener
- Two all-beef patties (McDonald’s)
- I don’t wanna grow up, I’m a Toys R Us kid
- You deserve a break today (McDonald’s)
- Wouldn’t you like to be a Pepper, too? (Dr. Pepper)
- Campbell’s Soup, mm mm good
- Plop plop, fizz fizz (Alka-Seltzer)
- Stuck on me (Band-Aid)
- Double your pleasure, double your fun (Doublemint Gum)
