Rare find:
A funny Internet photo that’s real
Perhaps you have seen, circulating on the Internet, this photo of a clothing label. It was produced during the U.S. presidency of George W. Bush, in 2004:
Someone wisely set it in all caps, avoiding having to deal with troublesome accent marks. I happen to speak French, so permit me to translate: “We’re sorry that our president is an idiot. We didn’t vote for him.”
By now we would hope that most people know not to accept as genuine every photo circulating on the Internet. But this one is the real thing. Tim Bihn, president of the culpable clothing manufacturing company, suggests that the label was not a jab at president Bush, but an all-in-good-fun jab directed at Bihn himself by his employees.
Not everyone buys that explanation. Some speculate that it indeed was a Bush jab, while others speculate that it was a publicity stunt. Who knows where the truth lies? Click here to read the story on my favorite fact-finding site, Snopes.com.
