No idea why I didn’t hear about this promotion in 2009, when it ran. Here it is in case you missed it, too.
Today I espied this on my friend and colleague Grant Johnson’s LinkedIn page and just had to steal, er, borrow it for my blog. It’s from a 2009 McDonald’s coffee promotion in Manhattan. Yes, I’m only hearing about it now, 10 years after the fact. I have no excuse. Out-of-home advertising usually refers to billboards and bus boards. But now and then someone comes up with a refreshingly (pun intended) different approach to out-of-home. I suspect it would have been rather difficult for anyone to drive or walk by without an inkling that McDonald’s was giving away coffee. I am doing my best to resist adding something snarky to the effect of if you have tried McCafe coffee, perhaps you will agree with me that free is a fair price. Oops. Couldn’t resist. But the concept is brilliant. |
