Sadly but predictably, not a few thousand racists* lost no time expressing outrage the moment the commercial showed up on YouTube. I need hardly tell you the essence of their beef. Yes, even in the 21st Century.
On the encouraging side, the positive comments vastly outweighed the negative. There is hope for us yet.
Still, the negative comments were just plain nasty. So nasty, that Cheerios cut off the comments—all of them--but has continued standing proudly by the commercial and kept it running.
In short, Cheerios responded with class. Bravo.
I yearn for the day when we will all look about us and see, simply, families. Not mixed or all-this or all-the-other families. Just families. The concept of race is a human invention anyway. It is an artificial designation, a false demarcation. We are one species. Like any species, homo sapiens comes with variations. Period.
